Award Categories & Criteria
Recognizing alumni for extraordinary entrepreneurial success.
Entrepreneur as demonstrated by:
Founder, principal, owner of a company, or inheritor of a family company, that the candidate transformed by innovation (either newly developed by the company or adopted and implemented) into a recognized innovation leader in the field
Demonstrated a willingness to take calculated risks, (e.g. overcame high chance of failure to achieve success)
Company recognized as an innovator or leader (e.g., by a recognized professional group).
Recognized in the profession as an entrepreneur, (e.g. entrepreneur magazine, wealth magazine, who’s who)
Demonstrated leadership and success through company growth (at least multiple year consistent growth over time) in revenues, stock price, and/or employees.
Demonstrated the qualities of excellence, honor and integrity engendered by a Stevens degree

Recognizing friends who have supported Stevens without having graduated from the university.
The purpose of this award is to recognize a non‐alum who has demonstrated significant commitment and extraordinary support to the university. The candidate has had a substantial impact on the university's mission and reputation. Activities could include:
Facilitating major corporate or governmental partnerships and support
Establishing an endowed faculty chair in a research/teaching area
Funding the creation of a needed research and/or teaching laboratory/building
Recognizing alumni for their significant achievements abroad.
Achieved significant, recognized significant professional success outside of the United States
Significant career success has occurred outside the U.S.
Held major international leadership position within an organization (e.g., responsible for financial or technical operations in a commercially significant ex‐US country)
Achieved recognition in an international arena of technology, business, academia, or government in their country of origin or choice.
Demonstrated recognized global contributions with significant impact to a foreign country or organizations
Contributions may include establishing a major global operation/presence that impacts the local economy or the local society; generating substantial revenues that impact a company’s bottom line; improving the health and standard of living of the populace; holding a leadership position at a major non‐U.S. university
Demonstrated the qualities of excellence, honor and integrity engendered by a Stevens degree
Recognizing alumni for long, sustained and dedicated service to Stevens.
The purpose of this award shall be to recognize long (ideally 50+ years), sustained and dedicated service to the university. The candidate should demonstrate dedicated service which furthers the reputation of the university and the affinity of its alumni.
Service to the university could include:
Class president, class secretary, Stevens Fund captain
Regional and affinity clubs: Founder, president, program coordinator
SAA ‐ Officer/ Trustee; Decade representative; Committee chair; Fund agent
Stevens Board of Trustees
Student recruiter
Departmental/school advisory committee member
Senior design project mentor/funder Advocate who fostered company/organization affiliation with Stevens (Donation of equipment; Promotion of new programs: in-house/at Stevens)
Strong commitment to Stevens as exhibited by on‐going philanthropic history, volunteering one’s time, or facilitating support for Stevens from various sources.
Demonstrated the qualities of excellence, honor and integrity engendered by a Stevens degree
Recognizing alumni who have given one or more significant contributions to Stevens.
The purpose of this award is to recognize an alum who has demonstrated a positive impact on the university’s programs and operations.
Contributions could include:
Providing guidance and expertise in financial, legal, academic or administrative matters
Facilitating major corporate or governmental partnerships and support
Establishing an endowed faculty chair in a research/teaching area
Funding the creation of a needed research and/or teaching laboratory/building
Demonstrated the qualities of excellence, honor and integrity engendered by a Stevens degree
Recognizing notable achievement in a given field.
Since this is envisioned to be the highest Stevens award, the recipient must be clearly recognized inside and outside their field of endeavor. The committee should strive to identify worthy candidates for this award so that it is given every year with no decrease in quality of the awardee.
Notable achievement in science (e.g., major discovery, nationally and internationally recognized, significant impact in the field); engineering and technology (e.g., impacting patented invention, major problem solved); medicine (e.g., identified or developed a new or improved treatment, procedure, invention; improved community or national health care)
Recognized humanitarian (e.g., serving the disenfranchised, improving conditions or health care in third‐world countries, underprivileged or underserved areas); providing key societal leadership for pressing problems
Recognized by peers for significant impact in chosen field. Considered a Key Opinion Leader in field.
Founded or transformed a corporation and lead it into becoming a recognized, innovative, national and/or world technology leader
Elected or appointed to a highly responsible position within local, state, or federal government (e.g., Mayor of a major city, Governor, Senator, Representative, Ambassador, or Cabinet Position)
Held major leadership position within a government department or agency such as U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, U.S. Food and Drug Agency, or state environmental protection agency
Elected as head of a major society or founder of major society
Received or nominated for major national and/or international award (e.g., Nobel Prize laureate, Governor or Presidential Award; American Academy of Medicine Award)
Elected to the National Academies of Science or Engineering, and/or Medicine
Senior Officer (e.g., CEO) of a Fortune 500 company
Received Presidential Award, American Academy of Medicine Award, or other national awards
Sought out for national and international committees; selected for key study commissions on issues of national and/or international importance; regular commentator in national publication or media outlet
Recognizing alumni under age 40 who have already had an impact on their chosen fields.
Ideally, the alum should be about 35 years old with a maximum age of about 40. Substantial effort should be expended by the Committee to identify worthy candidates for this award so that it is given every year so as to encourage our younger alumni to excel.
Demonstrated sustained, progressive professional growth at a steep trajectory
A record of rapid and increasing professional advancement within the chosen field, an organization(s), or for governmental service (e.g., demonstrated by continual promotions/advancement)
Rapidly achieved a high level of responsibility and leadership
Having a significant impact on an organization or the chosen field.
For smaller organizations, attained the level of Officer (e.g., VP, Senior Partner, CIO, COO, or CEO)
For larger organizations, attained a significant amount of responsibility and authority for the years of experience (e.g., manager, director, VP, Senior VP, partner)
Received awards in the chosen field or within the organization for contributions
Demonstrated the qualities of excellence, honor and integrity engendered by a Stevens degree
