Pi Tau Sigma
Welcome to the Phi Omicron Chapter of Pi Tau Sigma, the National Mechanical Engineering Honor Society
Pi Tau Sigma was founded to establish a closer bond of fellowship, resulting in mutual benefit to men and women in the study and in the profession of mechanical engineering, who by their academic or practical achievements manifest a real interest and marked ability in their chosen work.
The Stevens Phi Omicron Chapter was founded on October 17, 1986, as the 136th student chapter.
The chapter has established a policy to initiate only juniors (fifth and sixth semesters) and seniors (in their seventh semester). To be considered eligible for membership a student's scholastic ranking during the junior/senior year must be in the top sixth (or 16.7%) of the class with a GPA of at least 3.8 or better. There are initiation ceremonies during the fall and spring terms.
The Stevens Phi Omicron chapter co-organizes several events with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) student chapter each year. These include seminars, workshops and social events (such as faculty/student bowling, etc.). The chapter also organizes educational, social, and outreach activities and assists the Department of Mechanical Engineering by providing tutoring services. The faculty advisor submits an annual report each year that is compiled and published by the national society. One or more of the officers of the Stevens Pi Tau Sigma chapter also attend the national chapter conference each year.
