Move beyond the basics of finance and take your career in financial advising to the top ranks of the finance industry

Financial advising is regularly listed among the top jobs in the United States, with increasing demand for services as retirement planning increasingly becomes the responsibility of individuals, not employers. Being a savvy wealth manager means understanding the basic tenants of finance — including risk, investment management and estate planning — but also requires a set of analytical skills, so you can ensure you're making smart recommendations that create value for your customers, whether they are parents planning a college fund, retirees preparing inheritances or hedge funds.

The Financial Planning certificate at Stevens has been registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, indicating that it teaches the required skills for aspiring financial planners to sit for the required exams to pursue certification.

The following courses are required for this certificate:

  • FIN 510 Financial Statement Analysis

  • FIN 627 Investment Management

  • FIN 550 Financial Planning and Risk Management

  • FIN 560 Federal Taxation of Individuals

  • FIN 555 Retirement and Estate Planning

  • FIN 565 Financial Plan Development

If desired, the above courses can be applied toward a full graduate degree from the School of Business, especially the master's in Finance.
