General Information
Peter G. Dominick, is a Teaching Professor within the School of Business at Stevens Institute of Technology where he is academic program coordinator for the School’s MBA and executive MBA Programs. As an educator and consultant, he has created leadership development curricula stressing action learning and personal development planning. His consulting work includes executive coaching, process consultation, behavioral assessment and training program development. He has published several papers on multi-source feedback and other aspects of leadership development one of which received the outstanding manuscript award for Volume 11 of the Journal of Behavioral and Applied Management. His book chapters include Instilling the Leadership Development Mindset and Forced Choice Ranking: Pros, Cons and Alternatives which appears in a book that is part of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology’s (SIOP) professional practice series. That book, Performance Management: Putting Research Into Action won the R. Wayne Pace HRD Book of the Year Award from the Academy of Human Resource Development. He is also co-author of Tools and Tactics of Design (John Wiley & Sons), which focuses on interpersonal and cognitive skills required to execute the engineering design process. During his career at Stevens, Pete has contributed to more than six million dollars in externally funded projects and research grants. These include projects funded by the Department of Defense to enhance the leadership skills of systems engineering professionals and also executive education projects focused on leadership development for technical professionals within such organizations as ExxonMobil, NASA, BAE, IBM and Pearson-Learning Corporation. Pete received his Ph.D. in Applied Psychology from Stevens, earned his MA in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University, and completed his undergraduate studies in Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University. He has been recognized several times for outstanding teaching. This includes receiving the Business School’s Outstanding Teacher Award, the University’s Harvey N. Davis Distinguished Assistant Professor Teaching Award, the University’s Alexander Crombie Humphrey’s Distinguished Associate Professor Teaching Award and in 2022 the University’s Henry Morton Distinguished Teaching Professor Award. In 2015, his paper on team personality composition received the Bright Idea Award from the New Jersey Business and Industry Association, recognizing it as one of the top 10 Business School papers published in the State during the previous year. His most recent publication on the espoused values of Great Place to Work companies appears in the Journal of Business Ethnics.

Stevens Inclusive Leadership: Applying Next Level Leadership to Optimize Business Outcomes – Funded by Stevens Board of Trustee donors, this initiative is focused on developing diversity and inclusive leadership programming for the students in the Schools of Business. This will include a comprehensive freshman learning experience, ongoing learning and mentoring opportunities as well as an inclusive leadership certification program. Program is to beonging beginning in 2022. Year one award is $90,000 (Program proposal was developed by G. Prastacos and P. Dominick. G. Prastacos is Task Force Chairperson. P. Dominick is Program Development leader).
Technical /Commercial Leadership Development For ExxonMobil Upstream Research Organization. A multi-year (2011-2021) initiative to develop and deliver technical leadership training, @$5,000,000.00 Program involves development and delivery of a customized technical leadership program worldwide. This was a competitive bid project with P. Dominick as senior author of the proposal that attained the project for Stevens. (P. Dominick is Program Director).
Advanced Technical Leadership. (2015) Objective was to revise and deliver a technical leadership development program to speed up technical leadership maturation of DOD systems engineers. $138,500. Funded by DOD-Defense Acquisition University (M. Pennotti was principal investigator. P. Dominick was researcher).
Helix: Exploring the Theory of Systems Engineers’ Effectiveness. (2014-15). Objective is to develop a career model to guide the development of senior systems engineers.US Funded by Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Systems Engineering (DASD (SE) and the Systems Engineering Division of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA--‐SED). $161,000. (A. Pyster was principal investigator, P. Dominick was a co-principal investigator).
Developing a Systems Engineering Experience Accelerator (SEEA) Prototype and Roadmap. (2010-2012) Objective is to develop and test an online developmental simulation for enhancing systems engineers’ leadership and technical skills, $800,000. Funded by the DOD-Defense Acquisition University, (J. Wade was principal investigator, P. Dominick was a co-principal investigator).
Systems Engineering Technical Leadership Development. The Vigilance Project: Understanding Emotional Concerns in Team Conflicts. (2007-08). A $2,500 award from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) to develop this business case. (P. Dominick was principal investigator).
