Research

We study the physics, design principles, and applications of photonic and nanophotonic devices. These efforts span from theoretical to experimental, and from fundamental to applied. We are especially interested in the role of symmetries and nonlocality in the scattering of electromagnetic waves in flat optical devices called "metasurfaces" (thin engineered materials). Once we understand the physics, we then aim to leverage the new phenomena to advance applications such as imaging systems, holography, communication systems, and quantum information science.
