Nationally Competitive Scholarships & Fellowships

The Office of Undergraduate Academics (OUA) is committed to helping Stevens undergraduate students fulfill their goals by assisting them in their pursuit of nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships.

OUA provides information, outreach, advising and support to high-achieving Stevens students who may be eligible for nationally competitive awards. Current students who have questions regarding national scholarships and fellowships may email amansisi@stevens.edu.Following are scholarship opportunities that OUA encourages current Stevens students to pursue. Requirements and deadlines are listed on each organization’s web site.

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship

This program is for undergraduate students who show the potential to become the nation’s next generation of natural sciences, mathematics and engineering research leaders. Applicant must be a sophomore or junior and a United States citizen, national or permanent resident majoring in STEM fields. The scholarship provides one- or two-year $7,500 awards to students with extensive research accomplishments, outstanding academic performance and plans to pursue a Ph.D. in a STEM field.

DOE Scholars Program

The Department of Energy Scholars Program is designed to create a pipeline of talent in fields that support mission-critical areas of the DOE. Undergraduates, graduate students and recent graduates are provided opportunities in research, technical and professional positions within DOE and other organizations that support DOE’s mission. Must be pursuing a degree in a STEM discipline or field that supports the DOE mission.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for research projects. Graduating seniors or recent bachelor’s degree recipients who have had some experience or an internship related to the project may apply. Applicants must be a citizen or national of the U.S. at the time of application. Permanent residents are not eligible. The program covers the cost of travel to the host country, living costs, accident and health benefits.

Gates Cambridge Scholarship

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship is for undergraduate seniors applying to pursue select graduate degree programs at the University of Cambridge. Applicants must be a citizen of any country outside of the United Kingdom. The Gates Cambridge Scholarship covers the full cost of study at Cambridge.

Marshall Scholarship

Up to 50 new Marshall Scholarships are awarded each year. Each award allows recipients to study for a period of one, two or, in some cases, three years at the graduate level at any university in the United Kingdom, in any discipline leading to the award of a British degree. Each scholarship includes a personal allowance for residence and cost of living, tuition fees, a grant for books, and travel in connection with studies.

NASA Fellowship Activity

NASA Fellowship Activity seeks student graduate research proposals responding to a NASA Research Opportunity. Candidates must be a U.S. citizen or a naturalized citizen who holds a bachelor's degree in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) field earned before the fall semester of the academic year. Candidates must be enrolled in a master's or doctoral program no later than September 1 of the academic year and intend to pursue a research-based master's or doctoral program in a NASA-relevant field.

National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program

The National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship funds exceptional students in STEM fields who have plans to pursue research-based master’s and Ph.D. degrees. The awards provide a $12,000 cost-of-education allowance and a $34,000 stipend to U.S. citizens, nationals and permanent residents who are graduating seniors or first- or second-year graduate students.

NIST SURF (Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship)

The National Institute of Standards and Technology summer undergraduate research fellowship is designed to inspire undergraduate students to pursue careers in STEM through a unique research experience thhat supports the NIST mission. Peace Corps

The Peace Corps provides students with the opportunity to integrate into a host country community where they will live and work on projects ranging from education to business development. The Peace Corps provides volunteers with a stipend for housing and living. Volunteers who complete the full two-year tour of Peace Corps service are eligible and encouraged to apply to the Paul D. Coverdell Fellows program.

Rhodes Scholarship

The Rhodes Scholarship is a fully funded postgraduate award. The Rhodes Scholarship provides two or three years of graduate study at the University of Oxford. For seniors and recent alumni. Requires university endorsement.

Schwarzman Scholarship

Apply for a one-year, fully funded masters program at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

SMART

This program gives undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to receive a full scholarship and gain employment with a Department of Defense research facility upon graduation. Student must be a citizen of the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand or the U.K at the time of application.

X-Force Fellowship: National Security Innovation Network

The fellowship is a full-time (40 hours per week), paid opportunity. The X-Force Fellowship program is open to U.S. citizens at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Fellows get the opportunity to work on a mission-focused, real-world project. Participate in a professional development opportunity, work directly with military and national security leaders.
