MLK Week of Service
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a federal holiday designated by Congress as a national day of service – a “day on, not a day off.” This year, the Stevens community will honor Dr. King's legacy with a full Week of Service, from January 27-31 2025, allowing students, faculty, staff, and alumni to engage more deeply in service and reflection. Throughout the week, various speakers will discuss the importance of taking nonviolent action toward achieving equality, justice, and change for all, and volunteers will have expanded opportunities to work with local organizations.
This 4th annual event aims to be Stevens' largest community service initiative yet. We encourage all students, faculty, staff, and alumni to register and join in celebrating Dr. King’s lasting impact through action and service.
All events are open to all members of the Stevens community (students, faculty, staff, alumni). Registration is required.

Past Service Activities
Last year, our MLK Day of Service made a powerful impact, directly benefiting over 1,000 community members through various volunteer efforts. Volunteers assembled and donated 240 sandwiches, 225 hygiene kits, and 123 community care kits with the Hoboken Public Library. They also prepared 350 letters for elders and hospice patients and refurbished over 20 laptops for Computers4People. In collaboration with 14 local nonprofits and community organizations, Stevens students made a meaningful difference. Partners shared enthusiastic feedback, including the Hoboken Charter School, which praised students for their dynamic engagement, and the Hoboken Public Library, which highlighted students’ assistance in organizing the collection and creating kits for their patrons. Symposia Bookstore and St. Matthew Trinity Lunchtime Ministry also commended the volunteers for their hard work.
2025 MLK Oratorical Contest
We are now accepting submissions for the 3rd Annual MLK Oratorical Contest. The MLK Oratorical Contest at Stevens is hosted by the Phi Theta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
