Stevens President Nariman Farvardin Named to NJBIZ Education Power 50 List

Stevens Institute of Technology President Nariman Farvardin was named to the NJBIZ Education Power 50 in recognition of the incredible growth and upward trajectory the university has experienced under his leadership, which began in 2011.

Additionally, NJBIZ included on the list George Calhoun and Steve Yang, School of Business at Stevens faculty leaders of the new NSF-funded Center for Research toward Advancing Financial Technologies (CRAFT).

The NJBIZ Education Power 50 list profiles leaders of educational institutions who are “responsible for managing organizations, making policies that directly affect the institutions or are themselves directly responsible for imparting knowledge to students, apprentices and the citizenry at large.”

Since 2011, under Farvardin’s leadership, Stevens has been on the rise: a 68% increase in undergraduate enrollment; a 147-point increase in the average SAT score of incoming first-year students; a 72% increase in FTE graduate enrollment; a 150% increase in underrepresented minority undergraduates; and a 97% increase in research awards.

Among the research awards is the first-ever National Science Foundation grant to create an industry-university cooperative research center devoted specifically to financial technology and science: CRAFT. Calhoun and Yang lead the center along with partners at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, with whom Stevens shares the award.
