Brian Semcer
PRESIDENT, MICRO
Brian Semcer is President of MICRO, a full-service contract manufacturing organization specializing in precision medical components, sub-assemblies, and complete devices for minimally invasive surgical procedures. He is a 3rd generation family owner of MICRO.
In 1993 Mr. Semcer joined MICRO, working in various operational positions from Production Floor Supervisor to Director of Operations, where he learned almost all aspects of the manufacturing operation. It was during this time that Brian was trained in LEAN Manufacturing and implemented many of its concepts at MICRO. After being promoted to Vice President of Business Unit Management, he was appointed President in 2011.
Since his tenure as President, Mr. Semcer has more than doubled sales revenue and opened MICRO's first manufacturing facility outside of the U.S. in Costa Rica in 2021. Under his leadership, MICRO has been able to remain globally competitive while the majority of its advanced manufacturing technologies remain based in NJ.
In 2018, Mr. Semcer successfully lobbied for the creation of an exclusion process for countries that implemented Quotas instead of Tariffs during the trade issues several years ago. After successfully testifying in front of Congress, an exclusion process was created and MICRO was the first company in the U.S. to be granted an exclusion, allowing medical-grade raw materials to resume shipping from S. Korea, which prevented interruption to the critical medical device supply chain.
Most recently, Mr. Semcer has established MICRO as one of the premiere suppliers for end-of-arm instruments in Robotic Assisted Surgery. He has also driven a continuous improvement philosophy which has led to advancements in IT technology, manufacturing equipment and automation processes throughout the business.
He was awarded the Force for Change award for his leadership during the pandemic. As a manufacturing company and a designated “Essential Business” for the Medical Device supply chain, MICRO faced a serious challenge as the vast majority of employees had to be on site each day. Mr. Semcer’s stewardship throughout this period helped provide an uninterrupted supply of lifesaving devices and components to some of the world’s largest Medical Device OEM’s.
Mr. Semcer earned his Bachelor’s degree from Wittenberg University and a Master’s degree in Technology Management from Stevens Institute of Technology. He is married with three children and lives in Summit, NJ.
